Rewrite Your Story—and everything changes.

There was a time in my life when the story I told myself was rooted in lack.

Not enough money.
Not enough love.
Not enough anything.

I wore that story like a second skin.
It shaped how I saw myself—and how I moved through the world.

Then one day, my big sister—wise, direct, and done with hearing me complain—looked me straight in the eye and said:
“You’re not poor.”

“You travel. You drive a new car. You live in a beautiful home.”

“That’s an old story, Lin. Are you done with it now?”

I froze. My usual comeback caught in my throat.
All I could manage was a soft, unexpected… “yes.”

That moment planted a seed.

A seed that would grow into something I now know deeply:

  • Your words and thoughts shape your reality.
  • The stories you tell yourself direct your emotions and actions.
  • Emotions are automatic. Feelings are shaped by thought.

Two Sacred Teachings from the Medicine Wheel

During one of our ZEST Wisdom Circles, we explored two powerful teachings:

  • Mind: Direct your thoughts and feelings
  • Time: Manage your time and agenda

These teachings continue to guide my journey—and may be just what you need to shift yours.

Directing Your Thoughts & Feelings

“You don’t describe what you see; you see what you describe.” – Niurka, Tony Robbins Power of Success Conference

We pick a perspective… and then we look for proof. Do you wake up feeling like your life is dried out, expired, or unfulfilling? Or maybe, as someone once said to me, it just feels medium.

Medium?
I don’t want a medium life.
I’m not on this planet to do medium.

I’m here to live with purpose. With clarity. With ZEST.

Are you?

Here’s the thing—your mind will always find evidence for the story you’re telling. What if the story itself is the problem?

Sacred Practice: From Head to Heart

Try this now. Put your hand on your head. Tune in. What am I thinking about right now? Then slowly move your hand to your heart. That’s where the feeling is.

Your mind is like the sky. Your thoughts? Just clouds. Some drift by, some stay, some form storms. You are not the clouds. You are the sky. And you can always choose to clear the way for light.

Emotions vs. Feelings

When I first wrote ZEST Your Life, I used these words interchangeably: “Trust your emotions and feelings to guide you…”

Now I know better.

  • Emotion is immediate. A jolt, a reflex.
  • Feeling is shaped by what you think about that emotion.

You don’t control emotion—you do shape your feelings. And when you direct your thoughts, your energy shifts.

Managing Your Time & Agenda

Buddha said, “Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”

Each day, I ask myself: “What’s the best thing I can do for me today?”

This is not about doing more. It’s about aligning your energy with what really matters.

Sacred Practice: Muscle Testing

I use muscle testing to bypass mental chatter and listen to my body’s wisdom.

One day at the liquor store, I placed my favourite gin in the cart. Suddenly—woop woop. A subtle pressure in my head. My body said no.

I trusted it. I put it back. You can try this too. Start simple:

  • Ask a yes-or-no question.
  • Notice if your body leans forward or back.
  • Use finger locks to test (I explain how in the full Circle recording).

The Power of Completion

A never-ending to-do list leaks energy. Every unfinished task is an open circuit.

Completion is sacred. Even a simple checkmark brings relief and clarity. That’s why I love my wall of  post-it notes. When something is complete, I remove it—and I feel lighter.

ROIT: Return on Invested Time

In my ROIT™ time management program, I teach:

  • Time Wasters – Patterns that drain energy daily
  • The Eisenhower Matrix – A simple tool to prioritize what truly matters

Ask yourself: “What’s the best thing I can do for me today?” Then organize your tasks with purpose. Your day becomes a living rhythm of meaning and alignment.

A Woman Named Blossom

We ended the Circle with a story. A woman named Blossom wanted one thing: A day that didn’t spiral into chaos.

She placed her hand on her head… then her heart. Choose a new thought: “Today is full of possibilities.”

She tackled her to-do list with the Eisenhower Matrix. She said no to distractions. She smiled more. And she ended her day in peace.

Not because everything went perfectly. Because she had the tools to choose again.
